Little Miss will be turning 1 next week! I can't believe my little girl has been in our family a whole year already. We sure love having her as part of our family and so to honor her year, I wanted to do something fun. I decided to go with Pinwheels & Polk a Dots! To go along with our theme, I wanted to make a bunting that matched the color scheme.
Luckily I have a mother in law with a whole stock pile of fabric scraps. I dug around and was able to find things in the colors that I wanted. Some of these fabrics are from the 70's!!
Step 1: First I had to make a pattern. I took an 8.5 x 11 sheet of card stock, folded it in half long ways and then used my paper cutter and cut a diagonal to get the size I wanted.
Step 2: Unfolded my pattern and traced it onto my fabric. I cut out all my triangles and put them in a pile.
Step 3:
I made sure all the fronts of the fabric were facing me. Then I came up with the pattern I wanted, and put them in order.
Step 4:
I got my iron hot and folded down the tops of the triangles about 1/2 inch and ironed it down. I just eye balled the 1/2 inch.
So all my triangles looked like this. As a side note, I am not a fan of ironing. But for this project, it made it go a lot faster.
Step 5:
Using my 1/2 inch guide on my sewing machine, I sewed the triangles (with a semi straight stitch) leaving a space to thread my ribbon through at the top. Remember, I am not a pro so don't look too closely at my finished product.
Step 6:
After I sewed all my triangles, I was left with some not so pretty ends and threads. I cut them off so they lined up with the front side of the triangles.
So they look like these.
Step 7:
Next I put a safety pin on the end of my ribbon and fed it through the tops of the triangles. I used a 3/8 inch ribbon. It fed through like a dream.

Straightened it out and slide it along the ribbon.
Step 8:
HANG IT UP!!! I think that I may need to put a stitch or two in the ends so that the bunting doesn't slide off, but it turned out just like I wanted.
When I first started thinking about this project it was a little overwhelming, but it was so easy and took just a few hours. Durning nap time, it goes by really fast! And of course break it up over a couple days.
I think it is going to be perfect for the party! I can't wait to see how the whole thing comes together.
