Snick - er - Treat Cones

I wanted to make a little gift to take to some ladies in the neighborhood. I was inspired by this picture from pinterest. With this as my inspiration, here is a tutorial of how I made my Snick - er -Treat Cones!

I gathered all my supplies. What you will need:
8.5 x 11 scrapbook paper
pipe cleaners
hole punch
scissors
tape
craft glue (not shown)
stapler (not shown)
embellishments

I found some cute felt spiders, rick rac, pom poms and pipe cleaners in coordinating colors at Hobby Lobby.
Then you make a cone shape out of your scrapbook paper. Making the opening as big or as little as you like. Once you get your cone, I used one or two staples at the top to keep the shape and used a small piece of tape at the very bottom. Then cut off some of the top so you have a some what straight edge around the top of your cone
Using the hole punch (I used the smallest hole punch I had), punch two holes opposite each other at the top of the cone. Feed your pipe cleaners through and make a handle at the top of the cone.
Once the handle is on, decorate the cone with the embellishments.
I decided to add a label to my cones, so I made one up on my computer, cut them out and added them to the front.

Then I filled them with my FAVORITE fall treat.
I call them Snick - er - Treats because my favorite fall treat is,
Candy Corn
Dry Roasted Peanuts
Chocolate Chips
When you have them all together you get a yummy, can't stop eating treat, that tastes like a Snickers. If you haven't tried it, DO IT!! Now is the time!

Super easy Bunting

Little Miss will be turning 1 next week! I can't believe my little girl has been in our family a whole year already. We sure love having her as part of our family and so to honor her year, I wanted to do something fun. I decided to go with Pinwheels & Polk a Dots! To go along with our theme, I wanted to make a bunting that matched the color scheme.

Luckily I have a mother in law with a whole stock pile of fabric scraps. I dug around and was able to find things in the colors that I wanted. Some of these fabrics are from the 70's!!

Step 1: First I had to make a pattern. I took an 8.5 x 11 sheet of card stock, folded it in half long ways and then used my paper cutter and cut a diagonal to get the size I wanted.

Step 2: Unfolded my pattern and traced it onto my fabric. I cut out all my triangles and put them in a pile.
Step 3: I made sure all the fronts of the fabric were facing me. Then I came up with the pattern I wanted, and put them in order.
Step 4: I got my iron hot and folded down the tops of the triangles about 1/2 inch and ironed it down. I just eye balled the 1/2 inch.
So all my triangles looked like this. As a side note, I am not a fan of ironing. But for this project, it made it go a lot faster.
Step 5: Using my 1/2 inch guide on my sewing machine, I sewed the triangles (with a semi straight stitch) leaving a space to thread my ribbon through at the top. Remember, I am not a pro so don't look too closely at my finished product.
Step 6: After I sewed all my triangles, I was left with some not so pretty ends and threads. I cut them off so they lined up with the front side of the triangles.
So they look like these.
Step 7: Next I put a safety pin on the end of my ribbon and fed it through the tops of the triangles. I used a 3/8 inch ribbon. It fed through like a dream.
Gathered it as I went
Straightened it out and slide it along the ribbon.

Step 8: HANG IT UP!!! I think that I may need to put a stitch or two in the ends so that the bunting doesn't slide off, but it turned out just like I wanted.
When I first started thinking about this project it was a little overwhelming, but it was so easy and took just a few hours. Durning nap time, it goes by really fast! And of course break it up over a couple days.

I think it is going to be perfect for the party! I can't wait to see how the whole thing comes together.

Happy Any Day Garland

I wanted to make something that would be easy and fun for Mr. C. I was inspired by this Happy day Garland that I found on Dana-made-it. She gives a great tutorial and made it seem really easy.
As it turns out, it was really easy! I got some felt scraps from my mother in law, sat down while little miss was taking a nap one afternoon and cut out all my shapes. Although in the tutorial they did stars and circles, I decided to do more shapes. Mr. C is learning colors and shapes so I thought it would be fun for him to point out all the different shapes. As I cut (free hand, hence the wacky stars), he piled all the similar shapes together.
Then I decided how I wanted to put them all together, in some sort of pattern (not really). As I would sew, Mr. C would hold the end as it got longer and longer. When we were all done I decided to hang it up in his room and he loves it! He told me "I can't reach it". All part of the plan.
I think this will be a fun garland to put up at the beginning of every school year to get the kids excited.

Spiderman Birthday Party

The boy turned 3! We planned a fun Spiderman party and invited his friends and cousins.
We had spiderman cupcakes, a pinata and played save the birthday boy from the sand. All the kids got a sticky hand and a picture of the birthday boy buried in the sand. They had a great time trying to pick up their picture with their "Spidey web"!
All the kids wore their Spider-Man shirts and looked great!! I even made a Spider-baby shirt for Little Miss!
It was a great day! I can't believe my boy is getting so big! He sure is a joy to have in our home.
